What have you learned from your audience feedback?
Before creating my products i created an audience profile of people who would be interested in my magazine, website and billboard. This allowed me to become familiar with my targets audience's likes and interests. From this i could then design my products to suit the target audience. However when i first created the audience profiles i did not go into much detail and only asked basic questions.
In the original audience profiles i asked questions which would help me develop ideas for my magazine, website and billboard. When developing the questions for the audience profiles i thought about the answers i would like to achieve therefore asked questions which we specific to my genre of magazine. I found out what was her favorite movie and genre as this would allow me to choose which movies i am going to include in the magazine to appeal to the audience. This would reduce the risk of the magazine failing. I have also asked questions not so relevant to the genre of the magazine to create a better picture of who the target audience is. I have asked about their favorite shops and TV shows as magazine's have adverts therefore could of based the adverts around their favorite shop. The most important piece of information gathered when developing the audience profiles was the age a gender of the person as this creates an age range and gender that the magazine needs to appeal too. It is important to have a specific age range as then the products can include information suitable for the age range. To improve the audience research i would ask more in depth questions which would allow me to develop my ideas further. I would ask questions which are more regional to relate to my magazine.
To develop my audience feedback i gave my target audience my completed products and asked them to give me thorough feedback on what they liked and how i could improve.
From this feedback i have learned that the target audience like a modern look and like the black and white images used as it appears more artistic and creative than a coloured image. I have also learnt an advert would be appealing to the audience as long as it an advert for something they are interested in, for example a shop or restaurant that is popular amongst that age range. When asking the target audience if there was anything else that makes the magazine appeal to them they said that they would read the magazine because it is free and as they are a student their budget it low. As well as asking them to write down their feedback on post it notes i also asked some questions which they gave feedback verbally. These are the questions i asked:
If this magazine was on shelf in a shop would you pick it up?
I would choose to pick up this magazine as the main image on the front cover looks intriguing therefore i would be curious to find out what the magazine is about.
Does the price of the magazine make it more appealing to you?
Yes, as the magazine is free it makes it appealing as i would not normally choose to spend my money on a magazine. As i am a student i try to control how i spend my money therefore would not spend it on a magazine. However i would read the magazine if i knew it was free.
Does the Billboard advertise the magazine effectively and would you be intrigued to read the magazine or use the website?
From looking at the billboard i would be intrigued to find out what the magazine and website is about however would not pick up the magazine or visit the website if i had only seen the billboard as it does not give the genre of the magazine away without reading the information under the masthead.
Interview:
Before beginning the creation of the magazine i interviewed someone who fits into the target audience. This interview has allowed me to gather what the target audience expect from a film magazine. From these answers i have included local events and places so the audience can relate to the articles in the magazine. I have also included the typical conventions of a magazine such as the masthead and sell lines as this is what the target audience expects from the magazine. Completing this interview allowed me to structure my ideas and designs around what would appeal to the target audience.
